CEO of Daimler AG, Dieter Zetsche, insisted it had no plans to make motorcycles. Daimler itself is the parent company that houses Mercedes Benz, Smart, and several other brands.

The statement was made Zetsche commented to reporters' questions regarding the purchase of shares made against Daimler Italian motorcycle manufacturer MV Agusta at the end of 2014. Similarly, as quoted from autoevolution, Monday (01/19/2015).

He said there was no intention of Daimler shares to control most of MV Agusta. Shares purchased was just under 50 percent.

The share purchase was invited speculation among automotive enthusiasts, both from sympathizers Mercedes Benz and MV Agusta. One that surfaced was when the majority of shares controlled by Daimler, the MV Agusta will lose its character as an Italian motor sport.

Zetsche ensure Meredes Benz not producing motorcycles and motorcycles will not be using the name Mercedes.

He added that, although there is an agreement with MV Agusta that Daimler will put his on the board of directors, but it does not necessarily affect the process of making the design and development of MV Agusta motorcycles. Cooperation agreed upon is, Mercedes will provide experts to help develop the technology Agusta following example
